For responsible brands
Responsible brands do not manufacture approval. They prove they can face honest public opinion.
The RealReviews Open Feedback Standard examines whether a company collects and funds feedback without conditioning incentives on positivity, suppressing valid criticism, or controlling reviewer conclusions.
The operating commitments
A participating company agrees to rules that can be examined, not a slogan.
Invite customers without predicting likely sentiment or filtering for likely praise.
Make incentives available regardless of whether the result is positive, negative, or mixed.
Disclose free products, sponsorships, affiliate relationships, and material personal ties.
Preserve valid criticism and permit qualifying unfavorable findings to remain publishable.
Respond to documented complaints with evidence rather than pressure on the contributor.
Exclude employee, owner, family, or agency reviews presented as independent consumer opinion.
Avoid preapproval of conclusions and accept periodic re-verification.
Report material breaches and use the same factual dispute process as nonpaying businesses.
What a designation means—and what it does not
| It means | It does not mean |
|---|---|
| The company’s feedback or endorsement practice was examined against a published standard. | Every product is good or every customer will be satisfied. |
| The named control was supported on the assessment date. | RealReviews recommends every service the company offers. |
| The fee arrangement, evidence, exceptions, status, and expiration are visible. | The business has no complaints. |
| The result can be suspended or changed after new evidence. | The company paid to be considered trustworthy. |
| The certificate identifies the exact practice assessed. | RealReviews guarantees future conduct. |

The certificate is the product
A badge without a live record asks consumers to trust the shape and color of a logo. The useful object is the certificate behind it: the standard version, evidence reviewed, assessment date, fee arrangement, exceptions, corrective actions, current status, and expiration.
If a control fails later, the public record should show the suspension or changed status. The company can submit corrective evidence and request re-evaluation. It cannot erase the earlier status by buying another badge.
We paid for independent feedback. We did not pay for praise.
